Versatile application of next generation sequencing in pharmaceutics

Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies holds promising potential to unravel the mysteries of biological systems. The popularization of NGS technologies is causing revolution in biomedical research and, particularly, is advancing the field of pharmaceutics and improving public health. NGS technologies have demonstrated capability to produce massive sequencing data at unprecedented speed and a more affordable price for biomedical applications, which opened up new frontiers of genomics research with exciting possibilities for disease diagnosis and therapeutic intervention. Further, increased availability of innovative NGS platforms along with improved high throughput NGS data analysis tools and computing strategies leverage the power of exploring NGS data information for research and clinical applications. This article outlines widespread implementation of NGS technologies in discerning actionable genomic information for drug screening, novel drug target identification, profiling adverse drug effect, biomarker discovery, biopharmaceutics development, vaccine production, pharmacogenomics, personalized medicine, polypharmacology and pharmacoepidemiology.
